• Sleep a full night — fatigue makes pain feel sharper and makes it harder to sit still.
• Skip alcohol for at least 24 hours — it thins the blood and makes you bleed more, which affects how the ink sets.
• Moisturize the area lightly (not the morning of, just generally keep skin healthy in the days before).

• Eat a real meal 1–2 hours before — low blood sugar during a session can cause lightheadedness.
• Wear loose clothing that gives easy access to the area, especially for ribs, back, or thigh pieces.
• Bring headphones and a phone charger — sessions run longer than people expect.
• Bring your government ID — every legitimate studio requires it for consent paperwork.

You’ll fill out a consent and health screening form before anything starts — this is standard and required by law in most places, not studio-specific paranoia. Your artist will confirm placement and size with a stencil before picking up the machine, so you get a last look and a chance to adjust before it’s permanent.
