Your artist will tell you at the end of your session which wrap they used. Follow only the matching method below — mixing the two causes problems.
Method A
Método A
Second skin (adhesive film)
Segunda piel (film adhesivo)
- Leave the first film on for a full 24 hours. Fluid — plasma, excess ink and a little blood — will pool underneath it. That's normal, not an infection.
- Remove it in a warm shower. Peel slowly, in the direction of hair growth, stretching the film flat against your skin rather than pulling it upward.
- Wash with clean hands and fragrance-free antibacterial soap, pat dry with a clean paper towel, and let it air-dry for 15 minutes.
- If you were given a second film, apply it now to clean, fully dry skin and leave it on for 3 to 5 days.
- Remove it immediately if fluid leaks past the edges, you get itchy bumps around the adhesive, or there's a bad smell — switch to Method B from that point on.
Method B
Método B
Traditional wrap
Cobertura tradicional
- Leave the wrap on for 2 to 4 hours only. Don't re-wrap it or sleep in it — trapped moisture breeds bacteria.
- Remove it and wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free antibacterial soap, using clean hands only. No washcloths, sponges, or loofahs.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel — never a bath towel, which holds bacteria and leaves lint in the wound.
- Air-dry for 10 to 15 minutes, then apply a very thin layer of unscented aftercare ointment or lotion.
- Sleep on clean sheets with a clean pillowcase. Cover it loosely for the first night only if it may stick to bedding.
Daily routine — days 2 to 14
Rutina diaria — días 2 al 14
Wash two to three times a day. Clean hands, lukewarm water, fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Rub gently with your fingertips until it no longer feels slippery, then rinse.
Pat dry, then moisturize thinly. Thin enough that the skin looks matte, not shiny — the tattoo needs air, and thick product traps bacteria and pulls ink out of the healing surface.
Keep it covered when you're out. Loose, clean clothing over the area. Change your sheets and pillowcase, and keep pets off the bed while healing.
Look after yourself. Water, food, sleep — healing is metabolic work, and a run-down body heals a tattoo badly.
What healing looks like
Cómo se ve la cicatrización
Day 1
Día 1
Fresh wound
Herida fresca
Redness, swelling, warmth, and weeping of plasma and excess ink. Feels bruised and tender — all normal on day one.
Days 2–6
Días 2–6
Tightening
Se tensa la piel
The skin tightens and dries out, like a sunburn. Light flaking begins toward the end of this window.
Days 7–14
Días 7–14
Peeling and itching
Descamación y picazón
Coloured flakes come off — that's dead skin, not your tattoo. Don't scratch or pull flakes: picking a scab pulls the ink out with it and leaves a permanent patch.
Weeks 3–4
Semanas 3–4
The milky stage
La etapa lechosa
The tattoo may look cloudy or dull — a fresh layer of skin over the ink, clearing on its own. This worries almost everyone, and it always passes.
Months 2–3
Meses 2–3
Fully healed
Cicatrización completa
Final contrast and colour settle in. Only now can a touch-up, if needed, be properly evaluated.
Do and don't
Qué hacer y qué no
Do
Sí
- Wash with clean hands and fragrance-free antibacterial soap
- Keep it lightly moisturized with unscented lotion
- Shower normally — fine from day one
- Sleep on clean sheets, wear loose clean clothing
- Drink water, eat well, rest
- Once healed, use SPF 30+ for life — sun is what fades ink
- Message your artist if anything looks wrong, with a daylight photo
- Tomar agua, comer bien, descansar

Contact a medical professional promptly if you notice:
- Redness or swelling that increases after day three instead of settling down
- Red streaks extending from the tattoo toward the heart
- Fever, chills or elevated body temperature
- Pus, or any foul-smelling discharge
- Pain that gets worse over time rather than better
This page is aftercare guidance, not medical advice. If in doubt, see a doctor first — then let your artist know.

Touch-ups
Retoques
Wait until your tattoo is fully healed — a minimum of one month, ideally two — before asking about a touch-up. A tattoo in the peeling or milky stage can't be assessed.
If it healed unevenly through no fault of your own, message your artist with a clear photo taken in daylight and they'll evaluate it.
As agreed in the consent form you signed, any touch-up required because of negligence in aftercare is at your expense — sun damage, picked scabs, swimming before healing, and infections from poor hygiene.
Common questions
Preguntas frecuentes
Can I shower?
¿Me puedo duchar?
Yes, as soon as the wrap comes off. Avoid soaking — no baths, pools, ocean, lakes or hot tubs until fully healed. Short, lukewarm showers, and don't blast water directly onto the tattoo.
When can I go back to the gym?
¿Cuándo puedo volver al gimnasio?
Light activity after 48 hours. Avoid heavy sweating, stretching the area, and shared equipment or mats for the first week.
Actividad liviana después de 48 horas. Evita transpirar mucho, estirar la zona y equipos o colchonetas compartidas la primera semana.
It's peeling in patches and looks faded — did something go wrong?
Almost certainly not. Patchy peeling and a dull, cloudy look in weeks two through four are normal healing stages. Judge the result at the end of the first month.
How long before the beach or the pool?
Minimum three weeks, ideally fully healed. After that, SPF 30+ on the tattoo every time — sun is the biggest cause of faded, blurred tattoos.
Which products should I use?
¿Qué productos debo usar?
Fragrance-free antibacterial soap and an unscented, additive-free lotion or dedicated tattoo balm. Avoid anything scented, alcohol-based, or petroleum jelly.
